Tour of Croatia

Tour of Croatia

During this April (19 – 24) we had a men’s cycling stage race in Croatia. It is part of the UCI Europe Tour and is rated by the UCI as a 2.1 event. We could say it is next in line after Tour de France or famous Giro d’Italia.

Name of the race (The Tour of Croatia) is perfect, as the 6 race stages, in 6 days covered almost all parts of our country. Total distance was approximately 1000 km and these were the race stages;

Osijek – Varaždin (235 km)
NP Plitvice – Split (240 km)
Makarska – Šibenik (189 km)
Crikvenica – Učka (122 km)
Poreč– Umag (40,3 km)
Sveti Martin na Muri – Zagreb (177 km)

With the start in Osijek and grand finale in Zagreb, you could follow the race on Croatia HRT TV and Eurosport, as well as many other TV stations all over the world!

Crotian rider Matija Kvasina (riding for the Synergy Baku Cycling Project) has won the overall title in the Tour of Croatia 2016 (and we are very proud of this)!!!

The first edition of Tour of Croatia was held in 2015.

Besides big sport event and competition, this race is great promotion for Croatian tourism as the race passes along beautiful cities, coastline and national parks, which will hopefully place Croatia right next to Spain, France and Italy which are the biggest cycle and active holiday destinations in Europe (or in the world).
